Ingredients
Scale
1 cup ketchup
1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
1/4 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1 tablespoon finely minced garlic
1 tablespoon finely minced onion
1 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon hot sauce (optional)
Instructions
In a medium saucepan, combine the ketchup, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, and brown sugar.
Add the Dijon mustard, minced garlic, minced onion, black pepper, and hot sauce (if using).
Stir the mixture well to combine all ingredients thoroughly.
Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a simmer, stirring occasionally.
Once it reaches a simmer, reduce the heat to low and let it cook for about 15-20 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the sauce to thicken slightly.
Remove the saucepan from heat and let the sauce cool to room temperature.
Transfer the sauce to a clean jar or airtight container and refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving to enhance the flavors.
Notes
For a spicier kick, add more hot sauce or a pinch of cayenne pepper.
Substitute the brown sugar with honey or maple syrup for a different sweetness profile.
