Preparation and Mixing
- Start by greasing a baking sheet or lining it with parchment paper. Dust the surface lightly with powdered sugar.
- In a medium saucepan, mix together granulated sugar, light corn syrup, water, Kool-Aid drink mix, and salt. Stir thoroughly.
Cooking
- Place the saucepan over medium heat and cook while stirring until the sugar is completely dissolved.
- Increase the heat and allow the mixture to come to a boil without stirring. Monitor the temperature to reach 240°F.
- Once at 240°F, remove from heat and stir in unsalted butter until melted.
Cooling and Kneading
- Let the mixture sit for 5-10 minutes until cool enough to handle.
- Grease your hands with butter and knead the taffy for about 5-10 minutes.
Shaping and Storing
- Shape the taffy into a log or cut into pieces. Sprinkle powdered sugar on the surface to prevent sticking.
- Wrap each piece in wax paper or cellophane to keep fresh.
