  • 28 oz Crushed Tomatoes Use high-quality brands.
  • 2 tbsp Tomato Paste Can substitute with extra crushed tomatoes.
  • 1 tbsp Sugar Adjust according to sweetness of tomatoes.
  • 1 tsp Dried Basil Fresh basil can be an alternative.
  • to taste Salt Essential for perfect seasoning.
  • to taste Black Pepper Essential for perfect seasoning.
For the Cheese Layer
  • 15 oz Ricotta Cheese Consider part-skim for a lighter version.
  • 1 Large Egg Helps bind the ricotta mixture.
  • 2 cups Shredded Mozzarella Cheese Mixing with provolone adds flavor.
  • 0.5 cup Grated Parmesan Cheese Fresh Parmesan elevates taste.
For Assembling
  • 12 oz Lasagna Noodles Use cooked or no-boil noodles.
  • to taste Fresh Parsley Optional garnish.

Method
 

Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Gather all your ingredients and equipment.
  2. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef and Italian sausage over medium heat for 8-10 minutes. Drain excess fat.
  3. Sauté chopped onion in the same skillet for 3-4 minutes until translucent. Add minced garlic for another minute.
  4. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, sugar, dried basil, salt, and black pepper. Let simmer for 30 minutes.
  5. Mix ricotta cheese, large egg, shredded mozzarella, and half of the grated Parmesan in a bowl until combined.
  6. In a baking dish, layer meat sauce, noodles, ricotta mixture, more sauce, and mozzarella. Repeat, finishing with sauce and remaining cheeses.
  7. Cover lasagna with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes until cheese is golden.
  8. Let it rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing. Garnish with parsley if desired.
