Preparation Steps
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the egg, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, Italian seasoning, minced onion, garlic powder, salt, black pepper, and water.
- Add the ground beef and ground turkey to the mixture and combine gently to avoid overworking the meat.
- Shape the mixture into approximately 15 equal-sized meatballs and place them on the baking sheet, spaced apart.
- Bake the meatballs for 15 to 20 minutes until golden brown.
- In a saucepan, heat the pasta sauce over medium-low heat while the meatballs bake.
- Once baked, add the meatballs to the warm pasta sauce and stir gently to coat.
- Prepare another baking sheet for broiling and open the hot dog buns slightly.
- Fill each bun with 3 meatballs and a generous ¼ cup of pasta sauce, then top with 2 tablespoons of mozzarella cheese.
- Broil the filled buns for about 2 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
- Serve warm and enjoy!
