Ingredients
Scale
8 slices sourdough or sturdy white bread
8 slices deli ham
8 slices turkey
8 slices roast beef
8 slices Swiss cheese
4 slices cheddar cheese
¼ cup sliced pickles
¼ cup thinly sliced red onion
1 small tomato, thinly sliced
½ cup mayonnaise
2 tbsp Dijon mustard
1 tbsp honey
2 tbsp butter, softened
½ tsp garlic powder
½ tsp Italian seasoning
Instructions
Make the sauce: In a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, and honey. Mix until smooth.
Prepare the bread: Spread the sauce evenly over one side of each bread slice.
Build the sandwiches: On four slices of bread, layer 2 slices of ham, 2 slices of turkey, 2 slices of roast beef, 2 slices of Swiss cheese, and 1 slice of cheddar cheese. Add pickles, red onion, and tomato.
Close the sandwiches: Top with the remaining bread slices, sauce-side down.
Make the butter: Mix the softened butter with garlic powder and Italian seasoning. Spread the mixture over the outside of each sandwich.
Grill: Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium-low heat. Place the sandwiches in the pan and cook for 3–4 minutes per side, gently pressing with a spatula, until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is completely melted.
Melt evenly: If the bread browns before the cheese melts, reduce the heat to low and cover the skillet for 1–2 minutes.
Rest and slice: Transfer the sandwiches to a cutting board and let them rest for 1–2 minutes. Slice each sandwich in half.
Serve: Serve warm with potato chips, French fries, pickles, or a bowl of tomato soup.
Notes
Feel free to customize the meats and cheeses based on your preference.
For a vegetarian option, omit the meats and add more vegetables.
These sandwiches can be made ahead of time and grilled just before serving.
