A delicious recipe for Soy Garlic Tofu Balls that are crispy on the outside and packed with flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 block (14 ounces) firm tofu, drained and pressed
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1/4 cup green onions, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, crumble the pressed tofu into small pieces. Add soy sauce, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, and chopped green onions. Mix well until combined.
  3. Sprinkle in the breadcrumbs, cornstarch, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Stir until the mixture holds together. If it’s too wet, add more breadcrumbs until it reaches a moldable consistency.
  4. Using your hands, form the mixture into small balls, about 1 inch in diameter, and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, turning halfway through, until golden brown and firm.
  6. In a skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium heat. Once hot, add the baked tofu balls and fry for 2-3 minutes on each side until crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  7. Serve warm with extra soy sauce or your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, try adding a tablespoon of hoisin sauce to the tofu mixture.
  • You can also substitute the breadcrumbs with crushed rice crackers for a gluten-free option.
