A delicious and indulgent Smashburger Grilled Cheese recipe featuring a juicy beef patty and melted cheese between crispy sourdough bread.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 slices of sourdough bread
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 ounces ground beef (80/20 blend)
  • 1 slice American cheese
  • 1 slice cheddar cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: pickles, ketchup, or mustard for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat a skillet over medium heat.
  2. Butter one side of each slice of sourdough bread.
  3. Place one slice of bread, buttered side down, in the skillet.
  4. Form the ground beef into a ball and place it on top of the bread in the skillet.
  5. Using a spatula, smash the beef ball down to create a thin patty. Season with salt and pepper.
  6. Cook the patty for about 3-4 minutes until a crust forms, then flip it over.
  7. Immediately place the American cheese and cheddar cheese on top of the patty.
  8. Top with the second slice of bread, buttered side up.
  9. Cook for an additional 3-4 minutes, pressing down gently with the spatula, until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted.
  10. Remove from the skillet and let it cool for a minute before slicing in half. Serve with optional condiments if desired.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add sautéed onions or jalapeños between the cheese and the patty.
  • Use different types of cheese, such as pepper jack or gouda, for a unique twist on the classic grilled cheese.
