Ingredients

Scale
  • 450 g beef sirloin or flank steak, thinly sliced
  • 300 g broccoli florets
  • 1 small onion, sliced
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 15 mL vegetable oil
  • 15 mL cornstarch
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 80 mL soy sauce
  • 60 mL beef broth
  • 30 mL oyster sauce
  • 15 mL honey or brown sugar
  • 10 mL sesame oil
  • 1 tsp grated fresh ginger
  • 1 tsp cornstarch

Instructions

  1. Prepare the beef: Toss the sliced beef with 15 mL cornstarch and black pepper until lightly coated.
  2. Make the sauce: Whisk together soy sauce, beef broth, oyster sauce, honey, sesame oil, ginger, and 1 tsp cornstarch.
  3. Cook the broccoli: Heat half the oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add broccoli and stir-fry for 3–4 minutes. Add 2 tbsp water, cover, and cook for another 1–2 minutes. Remove and set aside.
  4. Cook the beef: Add the remaining oil. Spread the beef in a single layer and cook for 2–3 minutes per side, until browned.
  5. Add vegetables: Add onion, bell pepper, and garlic. Stir-fry for 2–3 minutes.
  6. Combine: Return the broccoli to the skillet and pour in the sauce. Toss everything together and cook for 2–3 minutes, until the sauce thickens and coats the beef and vegetables.
  7. Serve: Serve immediately over steamed white rice or noodles.
