Salisbury Steak with Mushroom Gravy Swirl is a comforting dish featuring seasoned beef patties smothered in a rich mushroom gravy.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (for gravy)
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped onion (for gravy)
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, chopped onion, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix until just combined.
  2. Shape the mixture into 4 oval patties.
  3. In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add the patties and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until browned and cooked through. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, add 1 tablespoon of olive oil and sliced mushrooms. Sauté for about 3-4 minutes until the mushrooms are browned.
  5. Add chopped onion and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until softened.
  6. Pour in the beef broth and soy sauce, stirring to combine.
  7. In a small bowl, mix cornstarch and water to create a slurry. Add the slurry to the skillet and stir until the gravy thickens.
  8. Add dried thyme and return the patties to the skillet, spooning the gravy over them. Simmer for 5 minutes to heat through.
  9. Serve the Salisbury steaks with mushroom gravy over mashed potatoes or rice.

Notes

  • For a lighter version, use ground turkey instead of beef.
  • Add a splash of red wine to the gravy for extra depth of flavor.
