Patty Melt Sliders are a delicious twist on a classic dish, featuring juicy beef patties, caramelized onions, and melted Swiss cheese, all nestled in soft Hawaiian rolls.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef (80/20)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 12 Hawaiian dinner rolls
  • 8 slices Swiss cheese
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 3 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F. Lightly grease a baking dish large enough to hold all 12 rolls.
  2. Melt butter with olive oil in a skillet over medium-low heat. Add sliced onions and salt. Cook for 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until soft, golden brown, and caramelized. Set aside.
  3. In a bowl, combine ground beef, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix gently until combined.
  4. Shape the beef into small, thin patties sized to fit the slider rolls. Cook in a skillet over medium-high heat for about 3–4 minutes per side, or until fully cooked. Drain excess grease.
  5. Without separating the individual rolls, slice the entire package horizontally. Place the bottom half in the prepared baking dish.
  6. Spread mayonnaise and Dijon mustard over the cut side of the bottom rolls.
  7. Arrange the cooked beef patties evenly over the bottom rolls. Add the caramelized onions, followed by Swiss cheese slices. Place the top half of the rolls over the filling.
  8. In a small bowl, combine melted butter, Worcestershire sauce, and garlic powder.
  9. Brush the butter mixture generously over the tops of the sliders. Sprinkle with sesame seeds if desired.
  10. Cover loosely with aluminum foil and bake for 10 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for another 5–8 minutes, until the cheese is melted and the tops are golden brown.
  11. Let the sliders rest for 3–5 minutes. Cut along the individual rolls and serve warm.

Notes

  • Use 80/20 ground beef for juicy, flavorful patties.
  • Cook the onions slowly to bring out their natural sweetness.
  • Swiss cheese gives the sliders their classic patty melt flavor, but provolone or American cheese also works.
  • Avoid overfilling the rolls so the sliders hold together when sliced.
  • For extra flavor, add a little extra burger sauce before serving.
