A delicious and easy one-pot meal featuring tender steak and zesty flavors, perfect for a weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb sirloin steak, cut into bite-size pieces
  • 12 oz penne pasta
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup shredded Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes, optional
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup baby spinach, optional
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley

Instructions

  1. Season the steak pieces with paprika, salt, and black pepper.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large pot or deep skillet over medium-high heat. Add the steak and sear for 2–3 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove the steak and set aside.
  3. Reduce the heat to medium. Add the butter and onion. Cook for 2–3 minutes until softened.
  4. Add the garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  5. Pour in the beef broth and heavy cream. Add the pasta and Italian seasoning. Stir well.
  6. Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat and simmer uncovered for 10–12 minutes, stirring frequently, until the pasta is tender and the sauce has thickened.
  7. Stir in the Parmesan, lemon juice, and lemon zest.
  8. Return the steak to the pot and stir in the spinach, if using. Cook for another 1–2 minutes.
  9. Remove from heat and let the pasta rest for 2–3 minutes. Garnish with fresh parsley and extra Parmesan.

Notes

  • For the most tender steak, avoid overcooking it during the initial sear—the steak will finish cooking when returned to the pasta.
