- 1 block (14 ounces) firm tofu, drained and pressed
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup
- 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon minced garlic (about 3 cloves)
- 1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
- 2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)
- Vegetable oil (for frying)
- Cut the pressed tofu into bite-sized cubes.
- In a bowl, toss the tofu cubes with cornstarch until evenly coated.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together soy sauce, honey or maple syrup, rice vinegar, sesame oil, minced garlic, and grated ginger to create the sauce.
- Heat about 1/4 inch of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Once hot, carefully add the tofu cubes in a single layer. Fry until golden brown and crispy on all sides, about 3-4 minutes per side.
- Remove the tofu from the skillet and drain on paper towels.
- In the same skillet, reduce the heat to medium and pour in the sauce. Let it simmer for 2-3 minutes until slightly thickened.
- Add the crispy tofu back into the skillet, tossing to coat the tofu in the sticky sauce.
- Sprinkle sesame seeds over the tofu and toss again.
- Serve hot, garnished with sliced green onions.
Notes
- For extra crunch, double coat the tofu by dipping it in a mixture of cornstarch and water before frying.
- Add your favorite vegetables, such as bell peppers or broccoli, to the skillet when tossing with the sauce for a complete meal.
