Deliciously crispy and sticky tofu bites that are perfect for a tasty treat!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 block (14 ounces) firm tofu, drained and pressed
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic (about 3 cloves)
  • 1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • 2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)

Instructions

  1. Cut the pressed tofu into bite-sized cubes.
  2. In a bowl, toss the tofu cubes with cornstarch until evenly coated.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together soy sauce, honey or maple syrup, rice vinegar, sesame oil, minced garlic, and grated ginger to create the sauce.
  4. Heat about 1/4 inch of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  5. Once hot, carefully add the tofu cubes in a single layer. Fry until golden brown and crispy on all sides, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  6. Remove the tofu from the skillet and drain on paper towels.
  7. In the same skillet, reduce the heat to medium and pour in the sauce. Let it simmer for 2-3 minutes until slightly thickened.
  8. Add the crispy tofu back into the skillet, tossing to coat the tofu in the sticky sauce.
  9. Sprinkle sesame seeds over the tofu and toss again.
  10. Serve hot, garnished with sliced green onions.

Notes

  • For extra crunch, double coat the tofu by dipping it in a mixture of cornstarch and water before frying.
  • Add your favorite vegetables, such as bell peppers or broccoli, to the skillet when tossing with the sauce for a complete meal.
