Ingredients
Scale
1 lb ground beef
1 small onion, finely diced
1 small green bell pepper, diced
8 oz mushrooms, finely sliced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon butter
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon ketchup
1 tablespoon steak sauce
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
½ teaspoon smoked paprika
½ cup beef broth
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
6 hamburger buns
6 slices provolone cheese
2 tablespoons butter, softened
Instructions
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook for 5–7 minutes, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain excess grease if needed.
Add butter, onion, bell pepper, and mushrooms. Cook for 5–7 minutes, until the vegetables are tender and lightly browned.
Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
Sprinkle flour over the beef mixture and stir for 1 minute. Slowly pour in the beef broth, stirring constantly.
Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer for 5–8 minutes, until the mixture becomes thick and saucy.
Spread butter on the cut sides of the buns and toast them in a skillet until golden.
Spoon the hot beef mixture onto the toasted buns and top each with a slice of provolone. Cover the skillet briefly or place under the broiler until the cheese melts.
Serve hot with fries, potato wedges, or a simple side salad.
Notes
Feel free to add other toppings like jalapeños or sautéed onions.
For a healthier option, use lean ground beef or ground turkey.
This recipe can be easily doubled for larger gatherings.
