Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb lump crab meat, picked over for shells
  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ cup finely diced red bell pepper
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped green onion
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Lemon wedges, for serving

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, egg, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, Old Bay, garlic powder, and black pepper.
  2. Add the red bell pepper, green onion, and parsley. Stir to combine.
  3. Gently fold in the crab meat, being careful not to break up the lumps too much.
  4. Add ½ cup panko breadcrumbs and gently mix until the mixture holds together.
  5. Shape into 8 crab cakes, about ½–¾ inch thick.
  6. Place the crab cakes on a plate and refrigerate for 20–30 minutes. This helps them hold their shape while cooking.
  7. Heat butter and olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  8. Carefully place the crab cakes in the skillet. Cook for 4–5 minutes per side, until deeply golden brown and heated through.
  9. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate for a minute or two.
  10. Serve immediately with lemon wedges and your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • For a quick dipping sauce, mix together ½ cup mayonnaise, 2 tablespoons sour cream, 1 tablespoon lemon juice, ½ teaspoon Old Bay, 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard, and 1 tablespoon chopped parsley.
