Garlic Bread Sloppy Joes: A Delicious Twist on Tradition!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • ¾ cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ cup beef broth
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 6 slices thick-cut French bread or Italian bread
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
  • ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Brown the ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat for 5–7 minutes. Drain excess grease if needed.
  3. Add the diced onion and cook for 3–4 minutes until softened. Stir in the garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
  4. Add ketchup, tomato paste, brown sugar, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, beef broth, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Stir well.
  5. Reduce the heat and simmer for 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mixture is thick and saucy.
  6. Mix softened butter, minced garlic, parsley, and Italian seasoning in a small bowl to make the garlic butter.
  7. Spread the garlic butter generously over each slice of bread. Place on the prepared baking sheet and toast for 5 minutes.
  8. Spoon the sloppy Joe mixture evenly over the toasted bread.
  9. Sprinkle mozzarella and cheddar over the top.
  10. Return to the oven and bake for 5–7 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly. For a golden top, broil for 1–2 minutes, watching closely.
  11. Serve hot and garnish with additional parsley if desired.

Notes

  • For an extra-cheesy version, add a thin layer of mozzarella under the sloppy Joe mixture as well as on top. The melted cheese helps keep the bread from getting too soggy.
