A savory and tender crockpot cube steak recipe that is easy to prepare and perfect for a comforting meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs beef cube steak
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • 2 cans (10.5 oz each) condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 packet (1 oz) dry onion soup mix
  • 1 medium yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ tsp dried thyme (optional)
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch (optional)
  • 2 tbsp cold water (optional)

Instructions

  1. Season the Cube Steak: Pat the cube steak dry with paper towels. In a small bowl, combine salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Sprinkle the seasoning evenly over both sides of the steaks.
  2. Prepare the Gravy: In a medium bowl, combine the cream of mushroom soup, beef broth, onion soup mix, Worcestershire sauce, minced garlic, and thyme. Whisk until smooth and well combined.
  3. Assemble the Crockpot: Spread the sliced onions across the bottom of the slow cooker. Arrange the seasoned cube steaks over the onions. Pour the gravy mixture evenly over the meat, making sure the steaks are coated.
  4. Slow Cook: Cover with the lid. Cook on LOW for 6–8 hours or HIGH for 3–4 hours. Check that the beef is fork-tender before serving. Avoid lifting the lid frequently during cooking.
  5. Thicken the Gravy (Optional): Remove the cooked steaks and keep them warm. Mix the cornstarch and cold water in a small bowl until smooth. Stir the mixture into the gravy. Cover and cook on HIGH for another 10–15 minutes, until thickened. Return the steaks to the slow cooker and spoon the gravy over them.
  6. Serve: Serve warm with mashed potatoes, steamed rice, buttered egg noodles, roasted vegetables, or dinner rolls.
