- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
- 1 cup powdered sugar (for coating)
- Red and green sprinkles (for decoration, optional)
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and cream cheese together until smooth and creamy.
- Gradually add the granulated sugar and continue to beat until light and fluffy.
- Mix in the vanilla extract, almond extract, and egg until fully combined.
- Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined. The dough will be sticky.
- Chill the dough in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes to make it easier to handle.
- Once chilled, use a cookie scoop or tablespoon to portion out the dough. Roll each portion into a ball and then roll it in powdered sugar to coat.
- Place the coated dough balls on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden but the centers are still soft.
- Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- If desired, sprinkle with red and green sprinkles while still warm for a festive touch.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, try adding 1/2 cup of chopped nuts or chocolate chips to the dough.
- You can also substitute the almond extract with peppermint extract for a holiday twist.
