A delicious and flavorful Sweet & Sticky Chinese BBQ Chicken recipe that is loved by everyone.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds chicken thighs, boneless and skinless
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 inch fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 teaspoon five-spice powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 green onions, chopped (for garnish)
  • Sesame seeds (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together soy sauce, honey, brown sugar, rice vinegar, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, five-spice powder, and black pepper until well combined.
  2. Add the chicken thighs to the marinade, ensuring they are fully coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or ideally overnight for maximum flavor.
  3. Preheat your grill or oven to 375°F. If using a grill, oil the grates to prevent sticking.
  4. Remove the chicken from the marinade, reserving the marinade for later.
  5. Grill the chicken for about 6-8 minutes per side, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F. If baking, place the chicken on a lined baking sheet and bake for 25-30 minutes, basting with reserved marinade halfway through.
  6. Once cooked, remove the chicken from the heat and let it rest for 5 minutes.
  7. Slice the chicken and serve it garnished with chopped green onions and sesame seeds.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add 1-2 teaspoons of sriracha or red pepper flakes to the marinade.
  • Serve with steamed rice and stir-fried vegetables for a complete meal.
  • Alternatively, use this marinade on pork or tofu for a different protein option.
