Ingredients
Scale
2 pounds chicken thighs, boneless and skinless
1/2 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup honey
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons rice vinegar
2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
1 tablespoon sesame oil
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 inch fresh ginger, grated
1 teaspoon five-spice powder
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
2 green onions, chopped (for garnish)
Sesame seeds (for garnish)
Instructions
In a large bowl, whisk together soy sauce, honey, brown sugar, rice vinegar, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, five-spice powder, and black pepper until well combined.
Add the chicken thighs to the marinade, ensuring they are fully coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or ideally overnight for maximum flavor.
Preheat your grill or oven to 375°F. If using a grill, oil the grates to prevent sticking.
Remove the chicken from the marinade, reserving the marinade for later.
Grill the chicken for about 6-8 minutes per side, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F. If baking, place the chicken on a lined baking sheet and bake for 25-30 minutes, basting with reserved marinade halfway through.
Once cooked, remove the chicken from the heat and let it rest for 5 minutes.
Slice the chicken and serve it garnished with chopped green onions and sesame seeds.
Notes
For a spicier kick, add 1-2 teaspoons of sriracha or red pepper flakes to the marinade.
Serve with steamed rice and stir-fried vegetables for a complete meal.
Alternatively, use this marinade on pork or tofu for a different protein option.
