Ingredients
Scale
2 pounds chicken drumsticks
1/2 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup honey
1/4 cup ketchup
2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
2 tablespoons sesame seeds (for garnish)
2 green onions, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and place a wire rack on top.
In a large bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, honey, ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, salt, and red pepper flakes until well combined.
Add the chicken drumsticks to the marinade, ensuring they are well coated. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let it marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours for more flavor.
Remove the drumsticks from the marinade and place them on the wire rack. Reserve the marinade for later.
Bake the drumsticks in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.
While the chicken is baking, pour the reserved marinade into a small saucepan. Bring it to a boil over medium heat and then reduce to a simmer. Cook for about 5-7 minutes until it thickens slightly.
After 25 minutes, remove the chicken from the oven and brush the thickened marinade over the drumsticks. Return them to the oven and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through and reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
Once cooked, remove the drumsticks from the oven and let them rest for a few minutes. Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions before serving.
Notes
For extra flavor, try adding a tablespoon of sriracha to the marinade for a spicy kick.
If you prefer a sweeter glaze, increase the honey to 1/3 cup.
Serve with steamed rice or a fresh salad for a complete meal.
