Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef

  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce
  • 4 hoagie rolls
  • 1/2 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1/2 cup sliced tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup sliced pickles

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, cheddar cheese, chopped onion, milk, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.
  3. Shape the mixture into 1-inch meatballs and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  4. Bake the meatballs in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until cooked through and browned.
  5. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the cooked meatballs and BBQ sauce. Stir to coat the meatballs evenly and heat through for about 5 minutes.
  6. While the meatballs are heating, slice the hoagie rolls in half and toast them lightly in the oven for about 3-5 minutes.
  7. To assemble the subs, place a few meatballs in each toasted hoagie roll, then top with shredded lettuce, sliced tomatoes, and pickles.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add chopped jalapeños to the meatball mixture or use a spicy BBQ sauce.
  • Substitute ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option, and consider using whole wheat hoagie rolls for added fiber.
