A delicious and comforting Sloppy Joe Tater Tot Skillet that combines the classic flavors of Sloppy Joes with crispy tater tots, topped with melted cheddar cheese.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 (32-ounce) bag frozen tater tots
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat.
  2. Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Sauté for 3-4 minutes until the onion is translucent.
  3. Stir in the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, mustard, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well and let it simmer for about 5 minutes.
  4. Preheat your oven to 425°F.
  5. Spread the tater tots evenly over the beef mixture in the skillet. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the tater tots are golden brown and crispy.
  6. Remove the skillet from the oven and sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese on top. Return to the oven for an additional 5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted.
  7. Garnish with sliced green onions before serving.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add diced jalapeños or a dash of hot sauce to the beef mixture.
  • Substitute ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version of this dish.
