Ingredients
Scale
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 pound ground beef
1 small onion, diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup ketchup
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 teaspoon mustard
1 teaspoon chili powder
Salt and pepper to taste
1 (32-ounce) bag frozen tater tots
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)
Instructions
In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat.
Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Sauté for 3-4 minutes until the onion is translucent.
Stir in the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, mustard, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well and let it simmer for about 5 minutes.
Preheat your oven to 425°F.
Spread the tater tots evenly over the beef mixture in the skillet. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the tater tots are golden brown and crispy.
Remove the skillet from the oven and sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese on top. Return to the oven for an additional 5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted.
Garnish with sliced green onions before serving.
Notes
For a spicier kick, add diced jalapeños or a dash of hot sauce to the beef mixture.
Substitute ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version of this dish.
