Ingredients
Scale
1 pound ground beef
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
1/4 cup finely chopped onion
1/4 cup milk
1 large egg
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
2 tablespoons olive oil
8 ounces mushrooms, sliced
2 cups beef broth
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, milk, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.
Form the mixture into 4 oval patties, about 1 inch thick.
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the patties and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side until browned and cooked through. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
In the same skillet, add sliced mushrooms and sauté until they are browned and tender, about 5 minutes.
Sprinkle flour over the mushrooms and stir to coat. Gradually add beef broth and soy sauce, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens, about 3-4 minutes.
Return the patties to the skillet and simmer in the gravy for an additional 5 minutes.
Serve the Salisbury steaks hot, garnished with fresh parsley.
Notes
For extra flavor, add a teaspoon of Dijon mustard to the meat mixture.
Substitute ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version of Salisbury steak.
