Ingredients
Scale
3 cups potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
4 cups green cabbage, shredded
1 medium onion, chopped
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
1 cup sour cream
1 cup milk
2 tablespoons butter, melted
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
½ teaspoon paprika
½ teaspoon dried thyme
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with cooking spray or butter.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the sour cream, milk, melted butter, garlic powder, salt, black pepper, paprika, and thyme. Mix well until smooth.
Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Top with half of the shredded cabbage and half of the chopped onion. Sprinkle with half of the cheddar cheese.
Pour half of the sour cream mixture over the first layer. Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, cabbage, onion, and cheese. Finish by pouring the remaining sour cream mixture on top.
Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden brown.
Let the casserole cool for 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
For a meatier version, add cooked ground beef or sausage between the layers.
Experiment with different cheeses, such as Monterey Jack or mozzarella, for a unique flavor twist.
