Mushroom and Swiss Burger Foil Packets are a delicious and convenient way to enjoy a classic burger with a twist, featuring juicy beef patties, savory mushrooms, and melted Swiss cheese, all cooked in foil for easy cleanup.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef (80/20 blend)
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 medium-sized potatoes, diced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian herbs
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • Fresh lettuce and tomato slices for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat the grill to medium-high heat.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix until just combined, then form into 4 equal patties.
  3. In another bowl, toss the diced potatoes with olive oil, Italian herbs, and a pinch of salt and pepper.
  4. Cut four large pieces of aluminum foil (about 12×12 inches). Place a quarter of the potatoes in the center of each piece of foil.
  5. Top each portion of potatoes with a burger patty and a quarter of the sliced mushrooms. Fold the foil over to create a sealed packet.
  6. Place the foil packets on the grill and cook for 15-20 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the burgers are cooked to your desired doneness and the potatoes are tender.
  7. In the last 5 minutes of cooking, carefully open the packets and sprinkle the Swiss cheese on top of each burger. Close the packets again to allow the cheese to melt.
  8. Remove the packets from the grill and let them sit for a few minutes before carefully opening. Serve the burgers on buns with fresh lettuce and tomato slices.

Notes

  • For a lighter option, substitute ground turkey or chicken for the beef and use low-fat cheese.
  • Add your favorite toppings such as pickles, onions, or barbecue sauce to the burgers before serving for extra flavor.
