Ingredients
Scale
1 pound ground beef (80/20 blend)
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
Salt and pepper to taste
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 medium onion, thinly sliced
2 cups beef broth
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, garlic powder, onion powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat. Form into 4 equal patties, about ¾ inch thick.
Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the hamburger patties and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until browned and cooked to your desired doneness. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.
In the same skillet, add the sliced onions and cook for about 5-7 minutes, or until they are soft and caramelized.
Sprinkle the flour over the onions and stir to combine. Cook for an additional minute, then gradually whisk in the beef broth and soy sauce. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook until the gravy thickens, about 3-4 minutes.
Return the hamburger patties to the skillet, spooning the gravy over them. Cover and simmer for an additional 5 minutes to heat through.
Serve the hamburger steaks hot, garnished with fresh parsley.
Notes
For added flavor, mix in some chopped fresh herbs like thyme or rosemary into the beef mixture.
Serve the hamburger steaks over mashed potatoes or rice to soak up the delicious gravy.
