A delicious recipe for French Onion Pork Chops featuring caramelized onions and melted Gruyère cheese.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 bone-in pork chops (about 1 inch thick)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large oven-safe skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring frequently, until they are caramelized and golden brown, about 15-20 minutes.
  3. Add the minced garlic, thyme, salt, and pepper to the onions. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  4. Push the onions to the side of the skillet and add the pork chops. Sear the chops for about 3-4 minutes on each side until browned.
  5. Pour in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, bringing the mixture to a simmer.
  6. Spoon some of the onion mixture over the pork chops, then sprinkle the shredded Gruyère cheese on top.
  7. Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the pork chops reach an internal temperature of 145°F (63°C).
  8. Remove from the oven and let the pork chops rest for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with chopped parsley.

Notes

  • For a lighter version, use boneless, skinless chicken breasts instead of pork chops.
  • Add sliced mushrooms to the onions for extra flavor and texture.
