Ingredients
Scale
2 bone-in pork chops (about 1 inch thick)
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 large onion, thinly sliced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon dried thyme
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 cup beef broth
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese
Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
In a large oven-safe skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Season the pork chops with salt and pepper, then sear them in the skillet for about 3-4 minutes on each side until browned. Remove the chops and set them aside.
In the same skillet, add the sliced onions and cook for about 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they are caramelized and golden brown.
Add the minced garlic and thyme to the onions, cooking for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
Pour in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, stirring to combine. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
Return the pork chops to the skillet, spooning some of the onion mixture over the top.
Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the pork chops reach an internal temperature of 145°F (63°C).
Remove the skillet from the oven and sprinkle the shredded Gruyère cheese over the pork chops. Return to the oven for an additional 5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Garnish with chopped parsley before serving.
Notes
For added flavor, consider marinating the pork chops in a mixture of olive oil, garlic, and herbs for a few hours before cooking.
You can substitute the Gruyère cheese with Swiss or provolone cheese for a different taste.
