Ingredients
Scale
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 medium onion, thinly sliced
1 pound ground beef
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon dried thyme
Salt and pepper to taste
1 cup long-grain white rice
2 cups beef broth
1 cup shredded Swiss cheese
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onion and sauté for about 10 minutes, or until the onions are caramelized and golden brown. Stir occasionally to prevent burning.
Push the onions to the side of the skillet and add the ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
Stir in the garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, salt, and pepper. Mix well to combine with the beef and onions.
Add the rice to the skillet, stirring to coat it with the beef mixture. Pour in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, bringing the mixture to a boil.
Reduce the heat to low, cover the skillet, and let it simmer for about 20 minutes, or until the rice is tender and has absorbed most of the liquid.
Once the rice is cooked, sprinkle the shredded Swiss cheese over the top. Cover the skillet again and let it sit for an additional 5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted.
Garnish with chopped parsley before serving.
Notes
For a healthier option, substitute brown rice for white rice and adjust the cooking time as needed.
Add vegetables like bell peppers or mushrooms for extra flavor and nutrition. Sauté them with the onions for best results.
