The Flying Dutchman Burger is a delicious and cheesy burger recipe that features juicy beef patties topped with melted cheddar cheese, served on toasted buns with optional sautéed onions and mushrooms.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef (80/20 blend)
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • 1 cup sautéed onions (optional)
  • 1 cup sautéed mushrooms (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Divide the ground beef into four equal portions and shape them into patties, making a slight indentation in the center of each patty to prevent puffing during cooking. Season both sides with salt and pepper.
  3. Cook the patties on the grill or skillet for about 4-5 minutes on one side. Flip the patties and place a slice of cheddar cheese on each one. Cook for an additional 4-5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the patties reach your desired doneness.
  4. While the patties are cooking, toast the hamburger buns on the grill or in a toaster until golden brown.
  5. Assemble the burgers by placing a cheesy patty on the bottom half of each bun. Add sautéed onions and mushrooms if desired, then top with the other half of the bun.

Notes

  • For a spicy kick, add jalapeños or a drizzle of hot sauce to your burger.
  • Experiment with different types of cheese, such as pepper jack or blue cheese, for a unique flavor twist.
