Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 8 ounces sliced mushrooms (for gravy)
  • 2 tablespoons butter (for gravy)
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour (for gravy)
  • 2 cups beef broth (for gravy)
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream (for gravy)
  • Salt and pepper to taste (for gravy)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, milk, ketchup, onion, garlic, eggs, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, thyme, and oregano. Mix until just combined.
  3. Transfer the meat mixture into a loaf pan, shaping it into a loaf.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven for 1 hour, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F.
  5. Let the meatloaf rest for 10 minutes before slicing.
  6. While the meatloaf is resting, prepare the mushroom gravy by melting butter in a skillet over medium heat.
  7. Add the sliced mushrooms and sauté until browned and tender, about 5-7 minutes.
  8. Sprinkle the flour over the mushrooms and stir to combine, cooking for an additional minute.
  9. Gradually whisk in the beef broth, bringing the mixture to a simmer. Cook until thickened, about 5 minutes.
  10. Stir in the heavy cream and season with salt and pepper to taste. Remove from heat.
  11. Slice the meatloaf and serve it warm, topped with the creamy mushroom gravy.

Notes

  • For a healthier twist, substitute ground turkey for the beef and pork.
  • For added flavor, mix in some grated Parmesan cheese or chopped fresh herbs like parsley or basil into the meatloaf mixture.
