Ingredients
Scale
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
3/4 cup buttermilk
1 cup lump crab meat, drained and picked over for shells
1/4 cup mayonnaise
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
1 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning
1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
For the lemon butter sauce:
1/2 cup unsalted butter
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
1 teaspoon lemon zest
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 425°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.
Add the cold butter and mix with a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the cheddar cheese.
Pour in the buttermilk and mix until just combined. Do not overmix.
In a separate bowl, combine the crab meat, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, lemon juice, Old Bay seasoning, and parsley. Gently fold to combine.
Scoop about 1/4 cup of biscuit dough and flatten it slightly in your hand. Place a spoonful of the crab mixture in the center, then fold the dough over to encase the filling. Shape it into a ball and place it on the prepared baking sheet. Repeat with the remaining dough and filling.
Bake for 15-18 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown.
While the biscuits are baking, prepare the lemon butter sauce. In a small saucepan over low heat, melt the butter. Stir in the lemon juice and zest, and season with salt and pepper to taste. Keep warm.
Once the biscuits are done, remove them from the oven and drizzle with the lemon butter sauce before serving.
Notes
For a spicier kick, add diced jalapeños to the crab mixture.
You can substitute the crab with cooked shrimp or lobster for a different seafood flavor.
