Cheeseburger Pretzel Bombs are a delicious snack that combines the flavors of a cheeseburger with the soft, chewy texture of pretzel dough.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 3/4 cup warm water (about 110°F)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup diced onion
  • 1/4 cup pickles, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • 1 large egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Coarse sea salt (for topping)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms. Knead on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  3. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  4. While the dough is rising, cook the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat. Add onion, pickles, garlic powder, black pepper, and paprika. Stir to combine and set aside to cool.
  5. Preheat the oven to 425°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  6. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball.
  7. Flatten each ball and place about 1 tablespoon of the beef mixture and a sprinkle of cheddar cheese in the center. Fold the dough over the filling and pinch to seal.
  8. In a large pot, bring 8 cups of water to a boil and add baking soda. Carefully drop each pretzel bomb into the boiling water for about 30 seconds, then remove with a slotted spoon and place on the prepared baking sheet.
  9. Brush each pretzel bomb with the beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
  10. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add jalapeños to the beef mixture.
  • Experiment with different cheeses like pepper jack or mozzarella for varied flavors.
