- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup apple butter
- 1 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Spread half of the batter evenly into the prepared baking pan.
- Spread the apple butter over the batter, then drizzle half of the caramel sauce on top.
- Drop spoonfuls of the remaining batter over the caramel and apple butter layer, trying to cover as much as possible.
- Drizzle the remaining caramel sauce over the top and sprinkle with chopped pecans or walnuts if using.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the edges are golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
- Allow the bars to cool in the pan for at least 15 minutes before slicing into squares.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, try adding a pinch of sea salt on top before baking.
- You can also substitute the apple butter with pumpkin butter for a seasonal twist.
- For a fun variation, add chocolate chips to the batter for extra sweetness.
