  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup apple butter
  • 1 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  6. Spread half of the batter evenly into the prepared baking pan.
  7. Spread the apple butter over the batter, then drizzle half of the caramel sauce on top.
  8. Drop spoonfuls of the remaining batter over the caramel and apple butter layer, trying to cover as much as possible.
  9. Drizzle the remaining caramel sauce over the top and sprinkle with chopped pecans or walnuts if using.
  10. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the edges are golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  11. Allow the bars to cool in the pan for at least 15 minutes before slicing into squares.
