Ingredients
Scale
1 cup heavy cream
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 small onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning
1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
Salt and black pepper to taste
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
Chopped fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions
In a medium saucepan, heat the olive oil and butter over medium heat until melted.
Add the chopped onion and sauté for about 3-4 minutes until translucent.
Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute until fragrant.
Sprinkle in the Cajun seasoning, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper, stirring to combine. Cook for another minute to toast the spices.
Pour in the heavy cream and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly.
If desired, stir in the grated Parmesan cheese until melted and well combined. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
Remove from heat and garnish with chopped fresh parsley before serving.
Notes
For a spicier kick, add more cayenne pepper or diced jalapeños to the sauce.
This sauce pairs well with grilled chicken, shrimp, or pasta; consider adding cooked protein or vegetables for a complete meal.
