Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 ounces cremini or button mushrooms, cleaned and halved
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/4 cup bourbon
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves (or 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Chopped fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, melt the butter and olive oil over medium heat.
  2. Add the halved mushrooms and sauté for about 5-7 minutes, or until they are golden brown and tender.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic and thyme, cooking for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  4. Pour in the bourbon, soy sauce, and brown sugar. Stir to combine and bring to a simmer.
  5. Allow the mixture to simmer for about 5 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened slightly. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Remove from heat and garnish with chopped parsley before serving.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes when sautéing the garlic.
  • Substitute the bourbon with apple cider or a non-alcoholic bourbon alternative for a different flavor profile.
