Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar (for filling)
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon (for filling)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened (for filling)
  • 1 cup cooked bacon, chopped (for filling)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup (for glaze)
  • 1 tablespoon bourbon (for glaze)
  • 12 tablespoons milk (as needed for consistency, for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, salt, baking powder, and baking soda.
  3. In another bowl, mix the melted butter, buttermilk, egg, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  5. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead gently for about 1 minute until smooth.
  6. Roll the dough into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
  7. Spread the softened butter over the dough, then sprinkle the brown sugar, cinnamon, and chopped bacon evenly across the surface.
  8. Starting from one long edge, tightly roll the dough into a log.
  9. Cut the log into 12 equal pieces and place them in the prepared baking dish.
  10. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
  11. While the rolls are baking, prepare the glaze by whisking together the powdered sugar, maple syrup, bourbon, and enough milk to reach your desired consistency.
  12. Once the rolls are done, let them cool for about 5 minutes before drizzling the glaze over the top.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, try adding chopped pecans or walnuts to the filling.
  • If you want a non-alcoholic version, substitute the bourbon with additional maple syrup or vanilla extract.
