Baklava Pie is a delicious dessert that combines layers of flaky phyllo dough with a sweet walnut filling, all drenched in a honey syrup.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups chopped walnuts
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 package (16 ounces) phyllo dough, thawed
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup honey
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the chopped walnuts, sugar, and cinnamon. Set aside.
  3. Unroll the phyllo dough and cover it with a damp towel to prevent it from drying out. Place one sheet of phyllo in the bottom of the prepared baking dish and brush it with melted butter. Repeat this process, layering and buttering each sheet, until you have about 8 sheets layered.
  4. Spread a thin layer of the walnut mixture over the phyllo. Add 4 more layers of phyllo, brushing each with butter, then add another layer of the walnut mixture. Repeat this process until all the walnut mixture is used, finishing with about 8 layers of phyllo on top.
  5. Using a sharp knife, cut the baklava pie into diamond or square shapes, cutting through all layers.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and crisp.
  7. While the baklava is baking, prepare the syrup. In a saucepan, combine the water, honey, vanilla extract, and lemon juice. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and let simmer for about 10 minutes.
  8. Once the baklava is done baking, remove it from the oven and immediately pour the hot syrup evenly over the top. Allow it to soak in and cool for at least 2 hours before serving.

Notes

  • For added flavor, try mixing in some ground cloves or nutmeg with the walnut filling.
  • You can substitute the walnuts with pistachios or almonds for a different taste and texture.
