- 1 pound Italian sausage, casings removed
 
- 1 pound ground beef
 
- 1 medium onion, diced
 
- 1 green bell pepper, diced
 
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
 
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
 
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
 
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
 
- 1 jar (24 ounces) marinara sauce
 
- 8 hoagie rolls
 
- 8 slices provolone cheese
 
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
 
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
 
	 
 
- Preheat your oven to 375°F.
 
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the Italian sausage and ground beef until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon. Drain excess fat.
 
- Add the diced onion, green bell pepper, and minced garlic to the skillet. Sauté until the vegetables are softened, about 5 minutes.
 
- Stir in the oregano, basil, and red pepper flakes (if using). Cook for another minute until fragrant.
 
- Pour in the marinara sauce and stir to combine. Let it simmer for about 5 minutes.
 
- Slice the hoagie rolls lengthwise, but do not cut all the way through. Place them on a baking sheet.
 
- Spoon the meat mixture evenly into each hoagie roll. Top each with a slice of provolone cheese and sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese.
 
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
 
- Remove from the oven and garnish with chopped parsley before serving.
 
 
 
Notes
- For a lighter version, substitute turkey sausage for Italian sausage.
 
- You can also add sliced mushrooms or olives to the meat mixture for extra flavor and texture.
