A delicious twist on the classic grilled cheese sandwich featuring the savory flavors of bacon, sharp cheddar, and sweet apple.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 slices of whole wheat bread
  • 2 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, sliced
  • 2 slices of cooked bacon
  • 1/2 medium apple, thinly sliced (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat a skillet over medium heat.
  2. Spread 1/2 tablespoon of butter on one side of each slice of bread.
  3. Place one slice of bread, buttered side down, in the skillet.
  4. Layer the cheddar cheese, bacon, and apple slices on top of the bread in the skillet.
  5. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper, then top with the second slice of bread, buttered side up.
  6. Cook for about 3-4 minutes, or until the bottom slice is golden brown.
  7. Carefully flip the sandwich and cook for another 3-4 minutes, until the other side is golden and the cheese is melted.
  8. Remove from the skillet, let cool for a minute, then slice in half and serve warm.

Notes

  • For a sweeter twist, drizzle a little honey over the apple slices before grilling.
  • Try using different types of cheese, such as gouda or brie, for a unique flavor profile.
